Hello everyone,
I hope that you're all doing well and like me are finding this platform helpful and motivating.
I feel happy that I am reaching the final few bars of Bach's first cello suite taught by Taso. I usually practice two hours a day; an hour dedicated towards scales, technique and various repertoire pieces, and the other hour dedicated towards theory and studying a new piece. Having said that, I've spent around an hour a day for 5 months dedicated solely towards understanding Bach, his music and in turn the musicality and technique linked to the piece itself. It has been a rewarding experience.
I am wondering, which piece(s) are you guys studying and how do you structure your practice time?
Looking forward to your responses.
Mohsin
Hi Mohsin, how are you getting on with your Mengual y Margarit?
I started learning Serenata Espanola a few months ago but it's been stop start, there's some varieties to the version I'm learning which differ from the tutorial here so its taking longer than expected. I haven't actually worked on it for a month or so, so I need to get back and finish it.
I'm in the middle of a much needed week off work and have just finished learning Wild Mountain Thyme, which has actually been quite tough to learn trying to remember the sequences rather than any technical difficulties. Really nice piece to learn, my 4th now with the drop D tuning.
I've also been brushing up on pieces I'd neglected and had forgotten parts of Vals Venezolano 3, Natalia. As the repertoire grows there's a lot more maintenance work to do keeping them fresh in the memory.
Hi Mohsin,
My practice times aren't structured at all at the moment, I'll try and have a sit down at least once every couple of days if not every day and practice what I've learned on here so far. If you leave it too long you soon start forgetting bits and pieces, I got a bit worried last night playing Capricho Arabe but managed to remember without having to look at the tutorials again. If that happens I'll make a point of concentrating more on that piece to refresh the memory.
I've other studies to complete and by June I'll hopefully be over the finish line without needing to re-do any assignments, and can spend a lot more time on here learning new pieces.
I've managed to learn Vals Venezolano no.2 recently so that's what most of my time has been spent on practicing lately.
Just noticed the Natalia tutorial is here! Soon as I find some time this is the next one.
I'm also look forward to seeing your video of Cello suite, you play very well and it's good to see how others are getting on, it's great inspiration.
